Mi rolled her eyes. She could recite higher that she had, they both could. "I can't tell you everything Near, all people must keep their secrets." She tapped her fingers on the table. "Just tell me wha you want me to do and I'll do it." She watched as he stacked the cards. Of course, such was not the proper use of the Tarot card. She would show him but she wasn't much into voodoo.
Mi stared at him intently. "He's a bit childish en't he Mi?" Tsu whispered in her ear. The comment made her jump slightly. It was a bit uncomfortable to have these people in her house, it had only been her brother and herself here for ages.

Near sat, silent, for half a moment. His arms at work, in constant motion, building his Tarot Card fortress. "What have I told you about tipping your hand? Now I know what you do is illegal. At least, partly." He paused, yet again, then smirked underneath the mask. "Perfect."
He twirled his hair, as he recited the next few lines. "You asked why I wouldn't just ask the FBI. Well, the FBI are ordered to fall in line, to stay within the law. But to catch Kira, my team has to be willing to do anything it takes. Rester, Gevanni, they're both useful agents, and I'm sure they'd risk their lives for this. But I need someone who can do what I ask, no matter what it is."
He ran out of space on the table, sighed, and swept his hand over the table, knocking over all of the cards. "That's where you come in. Your personality, skill level, and willingness to do what it takes intrigues me." He grabbed another, larger puzzle, and began working on it again. "The only question is, do you have the guts?"

Mi laughed. "You're very smart Near, but why wouldn't you be?" The swift movement of his hands was almost entrancing. She watched as the cards fell in almost slow motion to her. "I care not if what I do is illegal. All I do is for the better of the human race." She folded her arms on her lap. If she wasn't careful he could convict her of many things, she would have to remember to reset the failsafe on her laptop.
Tsu danced around the kitchen. He wanted more than anything just to prove his existence to the boy, though he knew that if he did Mi would probably slaughter him, no, she would definitely slaughter him. "Of course I have the guts. Why even question that? I'm not afraid of Kira, Chem or anyone else for that matter."

"Yes, but you fear for a lot of things, I'm sure. Your brother's well being would most likely be one. Along with your future, as you attempted to hide your illegalities from me." He half finished his puzzle, before looking up. "Do you know who my mask is?" He questioned, wondering what her answer would be.
The girl was smart, that much was for certain. But could she stand with the best of them? Not only with Kira and Chem, but also with whoever is working with L, or with Mello. He couldn't be at a disadvantage in the race. Kira's the final boss. And, until he's defeated, the three Wammy prodigies, L and his successors, would grind, level after level, to attempt to defeat him...

"I care not about the future, only the present. As for my brother, yes, I worry about him but I know he can take care of himself." She looked at the mask. "As for your mask...I do...Ryuuzaki, also know as L. It's amazing what you can do with a computer," She tapped her foot in mid air.
Tsu dancing circles around them all, jumping and singing as he went. He made faces at Near and the other two, obviously having so much fun so she really didn't mind. He did such things often so she was immune to it's effects by now. His jumping was a tad bit to excited for the room and he knocked into a shelf, knocking over five photos, their glass frames shattering as they hit the glass floor.
Both of them froze, though me tried to act as normal as she could. She could blame it on rats but there'd be evidence. Tsu looked worried as he began to preen his feather almost as a bird would, in a nervous manner. He was sure she'd be mad at him but she couldn't stay mad at him for long. He knelt beside her, bowing his head in shame and embaressment.

Near's thought process was interrupted by the sudden sound of the glass shattering. He tilted his head, and motioned for Gevanni and Rester to check out the area. "Any idea what that was?" He queried, gazing at Mi. She had frozen for a second, and hadn't said a word since it happened. Something about that set off his alarms. She knew something about it, he was pretty sure.
But, even so, he went back to his puzzles. Even if he showed some emotion right now, it wouldn't matter, because of his mask. His eyes were the only things that were showing, and frankly, his eyes never differed in appearance. The girl would have no idea what he was thinking. "I'd like to know, if you have any idea..."

She and Tsu both sighed at the same time. "Well...I wasn't planning on hiding it forever, this is just sooner than I expected." She stood up. "Follow me." She probably shouldn't but he did have a right to know, and besides, it wasn't that big of a deal. He already knew she did things that were illegal, in fact, he was practically hiring her for them. Jail would probably come one day so why not walk farther down that path now. She climbed the twisted stairs slowly. Almost at a stalling pace. As she reached the top she took a key from around her neck and inserted it into a lock, twisting to open the door.
The door swung open to reveal her room. Not quite average for a sixteen year old girl. There was of course a bed, a closet, a see through glass door that led out to a small balcony, a desk on which sat her laptop and other electronics and, of course, the oh so natural pepper spray, taser guns and bullet proof vests stacked on her bed. She moved to the centerof the room and wrenched a floor board up. She reached in and pulled out a small black book.

Near had followed her into the room, closely tailed by Gevanni and Rester. Inside, he made note of the pepper spray, not wishing for it to be used on him. He watched as she went and retrieved a black book. "So, what is this? I left my puzzles for a diary?" He questioned, not truly getting a good look at the book.
What did this book have to do with the glass shattering? Gevanni and Rester had reported nothing in the area, which was strange. Yet something had to have triggered it. He just wasn't sure what, or who, did it. "What does this have to do with that noise? Don't tell me you're trying to waste time. I've got agents patrolling the perimeter. Anyone that attempts to leave will be caught..."

Mi chuckled to herself. "No no. It is a Death Note, the same thing Kira uses to kill. The thing that cause the crashing was my dull brained shinigami...if you touch the book you can see him." Tsu cackled, he wanted funny reactions, he doubted this Near guy would do anything embarresing but Gevanni and Rester might. He jumped up and down on the bed, trying to avoid knocking off any of Mi's stuff. He did some splits and some twirls, simply because he was so happy.
She shot a 'Cut it out' glance at him but they both knew she didn't mean it. He spread his wings and hovered just in front of Near's face, staring at him with cold beady eyes. He could not wait to see this. It would certainly be interesting to see how these humans would respond to an almost avianthrope like creature right in front of there.

Near tilted his head. This was...an interesting development. He had heard of these Death Notes, from L's reports. However, he hadn't gained many details. Could there truly be...
His hand reached out and touched the note. The moment it came into contact with the book, a giant creature popped up directly in front of him, staring into his eyes. Near's eyes widened for moment, before he regained composure. He had been bracing himself for something strange, but this was quite over the top...
"Hello there, Mr. Shinigami..." He held out his hand, for a shake. Though, he wasn't sure if they shook hands. "You seem rather different than what most people think Death Gods look like. Rester, Gevanni. Touch the note."

Rester and Gevanni touch the note. When the creature appeared before them they were a bit shocked but soon realized it was not there to harm them most likely and regained their cool. "Everyone this is Tsu. He is the former owner of this Death Note." Of course she left out that there had been an owner between Tsu and Mi, her mother. "We work together, he's quite harmless really."
Tsu grinned broadly at them. "Yo little humans! Wassap! Any of you happen to have a lemon drop or two?" He turned his head upside down. "I really like lemon drops. They're lemony and drop shaped." He opened his mouth. Mi grabbed one of the small candies from her pocket and put it in his mouth. "Happy?" "Very!"

Near smirked a bit. "Seems like this Death God isn't exactly frightening. Unfortunately, this isn't what I came here for." He looked back at Mi. "You having a Death Note isn't what I came here for. Certainly, you've answered my question about the strange circumstance that arose in the other room, but that isn't the priority."
He picked up some of the pepper spray on the bed, and looked at the label. "The question is, will you join us? We could certainly use the help. But then, perhaps you aren't up to it. Who knows? Maybe you'd just rather sit here and feed your Shinigami lemon drops. Perhaps helping to bring down Kira isn't worth it to you. If so, we'll leave, of course. But then, the proper authorities will need to be informed of your Death Note..."
He smirked once more, under the mask. He had her in a corner now. She had almost no choice but to help him...

Mi rubbed the back of her head nervously. "Well you don't give me much a choice now do you?" She grinned. "I'll help you, I've got nothing better to do so why not?" She really didn't want to be turned into the authorities. She didn't know what they would do to her if that happened but whatever it was she was sure it wouldn't be good. "So, the answer is yes."
Tsu got an annoyed look on his face. He was begining to dislike this kid the more and more he got to know him. Not to mention he was being completely rude to Mi. He was the only one allowed to be rude to Mi and then this kid comes not only does he practically bully Mi into working with him but he is quite the simple minded brat. "But then again. If anything were to happen to Mi at your hands I would have to kill you...Near." He grinned.

Near chuckled slightly, apparently unperturbed. "Well, then it's settled." He turned to the Shinigami. "I'm afraid you've got the wrong impression. Gevanni and Rester aren't my only agents. I assure you, if I die sooner than I expect, they will come looking for Mi. And, you will be with Mi. If my name is in either of your Death Notes, well, then I'm afraid Mi will either be imprisoned or killed. And I'm sure you wouldn't want her to suffer."
He twirled his hair. "So, your only option is to listen to me. Because Mi's welfare is at stake. And if she suffers on the part of my agency, I'm afraid it would be all your fault. And then how would you feel?" It appeared Shinigami were exactly like humans. They could be manipulated. The only difference would be the same as a difference in humans. There were Shinigami sociopaths, just as there are humans. The only difference is their race, and the possible advantages Shinigami have.
He turned back to Mi. "All in all, I'm pleased to hear you've agreed." He walked into the other room, holding up a hand for Mi to wait. He came back with his toys. "This is such a more pleasant atmosphere." He sat directly on the ground, in typical fashion. "Puzzle?" He asked, handing her one...

Mi nudged Tsu with her elbow. "Shut up." She muttered. He was so simple minded, fun, but simple minded. She crossed her arms. "Of course, Tsu would never do anything of the sort because I've told him multiple times not to. Isn't that right Tsu?" He looked ashamed. It was true, he knew she was right. She had told him, no ORDERED him not to do anything stupid like that. If worse came to worse he would disobey her. He wasn't like a normal shinigami, he couldn't let anything happen to Mi.
"Of course Mi." His whole body just sort of sunk. He didn't like when she wanted to be serious it was so tedious. He tucked his legs into his chest. Mi had trusted this guy and he wasn't being very trustworthy. It bugged him. Tsu didn't want any bad people hanging around Mi. Heck, he was more protective than her brother.
Mi shook her head. "Um, no thanks." This kid was very...childish, As was expected but he acted younger than he was. She had trouble believing this kid was a genius. Then again he had pushed her into some tight corners so her couldn't be to incredibly stupid.
